Bandung – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), once again organized the Faculty-Level Student Achievement Award Selection (Pemilihan Mahasiswa Berprestasi/Mapres) in 2026. This annual program aims to identify outstanding students who not only excel academically but are also active in organizations, competitions, and capable of presenting impactful creative ideas.

This year, there were several candidates for Outstanding Student (Camapres) who participated in the selection process. After undergoing a rigorous evaluation by the panel of judges, three students were declared to have met the assessment criteria in accordance with the established regulations.

The winners of the 2026 FPMIPA UPI Student Achievement Award Selection are as follows:

  • 1st Place: Yohanes Peter Adam (Mathematics Education)
  • 2nd Place: Bulan Praharsini (Science Education)
  • 3rd Place: Dewi Alya Pramanik (Physics Education)

Yohanes Peter Adam, a 2022 cohort student from the Mathematics Education Study Program, was awarded 1st place after demonstrating outstanding achievements, a strong creative idea, and excellent presentation skills.

In his interview, Yohanes shared that at the beginning of his academic journey, he focused on attending classes while joining organizations that interested him. Over time, he became actively involved in various academic and non-academic competitions. According to him, balancing academic responsibilities, organizational involvement, and competitions presents its own challenges, yet it is a valuable experience that every student should try at least once during their university years.

He began actively participating in competitions in his fourth semester, starting with scientific writing contests. Through these experiences, Yohanes felt motivated to continue developing himself and eventually decided to take the opportunity to compete in Pilmapres. For him, participating in Pilmapres was not merely about winning a title, but also about recognizing his own potential and striving to grow into a better individual.

Regarding challenges, Yohanes explained that preparation was the most demanding aspect. Most of the evaluation components are based on students’ track records of achievements throughout their academic years, which certainly cannot be attained instantly. Therefore, maintaining consistency from the beginning of university life is essential.

He also offered several tips for students who aspire to participate in Pilmapres in the future. First, prepare an outstanding achievement portfolio and a well-developed creative idea. Second, consistently practice speaking in English to ensure a more natural and confident presentation. Third, actively engage in organizations, as leadership and organizational experience are also part of the evaluation criteria.

According to Yohanes, there are three main components in the Pilmapres assessment: creative ideas, English proficiency, and outstanding achievements. Although the evaluation system is quite comprehensive, he encouraged students to study the latest Pilmapres guideline book in order to fully understand the assessment criteria.

Through the 2026 Student Achievement Award Selection, FPMIPA UPI reaffirms its commitment to fostering excellent, competitive students who are ready to compete at higher levels. It is hoped that the winners will inspire other students to continuously develop their potential from an early stage in their academic journey.
