Bandung, December 9, 2024 – The special edition of Advocacy School (ADVOSCHOOL) with the theme GERAK: “Gender Education to Reach Awareness on KEMAKOM” has been successfully conducted by the Computer Science Student Association (KEMAKOM) of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). This event is part of the larger campaign #KemakomLawanKekerasanSeksual (#KemakomAgainstSexualViolence), aiming to enhance students’ understanding of gender equality and sexual violence prevention within the campus environment.

Held at the Auditorium of FPMIPA UPI, 2nd Floor, the event started at 8:00 AM and attracted over 100 participants from KEMAKOM. The program aimed to provide students with deeper insights into gender issues while encouraging proactive actions to create a safe and inclusive campus environment, free from sexual violence.

The event featured two distinguished speakers with extensive expertise in gender education and handling sexual violence cases:

  2. Legal Framework on Sexual Violence in Indonesia
The speakers elaborated on Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes (TPKS), highlighting various forms of sexual violence such as non-physical harassment, physical harassment, electronic-based violence, and forced contraception. The legal penalties outlined in the law were also explained to educate participants on the consequences for perpetrators.
  3. The Role and Functions of SPPKS UPI
As a specialized unit, SPPKS handles education, prevention, and case management of sexual violence at UPI. The speakers explained the reporting process, verification procedures, and victim support services, emphasizing confidentiality and fairness.
  4. Sanctions and Victim Protection
Discussions included the regulations that ensure protection for victims and impose strict sanctions on perpetrators. The potential increase in penalties for cases involving family members was also discussed.
  5. Signs and Prevention of Sexual Violence
Participants were trained to recognize signs of sexual violence, the importance of reporting cases, and how to foster a safe campus environment. This segment aimed to empower students to take a stand against sexual violence.

Participants displayed high enthusiasm throughout the event, particularly during the Q&A session. Questions revolved around the practical steps of reporting sexual violence cases through SPPKS. One participant shared, “This event has opened my eyes to the importance of understanding gender and sexual violence. I now know how to protect myself and help others who might be victims.”

The event was not limited to delivering educational materials but also encouraged concrete actions. In his closing remarks, Drs. Tono Rachmad P.H., M.Pd. emphasized the collective responsibility to combat sexual violence. “Silence is not an option. Every small action, from reporting to supporting victims, contributes significantly to creating a safer campus environment,” he said.
