Subang, July 8, 2025

The Biology Study Program of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) once again conducted a community service activity in Darmaga Village, Subang. This event aimed to improve the community’s health quality through a series of counseling sessions and health services. These activities directly addressed the needs of local residents, especially in the fields of elderly health and nutrition. They also focused on kitchen waste management using magoboxes and provided free health check-ups for the community.

The event began with an opening session led by Restu Utari Dewina, M.Si. and Nadiya Syafia Shani, M.Si., who served as the masters of ceremony. A warm welcome was delivered by                      Dr. Wahyu Surakusumah, M.T., Head of the Biology Study Program at UPI, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between the university and the community. Following this, the Head of Darmaga Village also gave a speech and expressed full appreciation for UPI’s support in this training.

Next session is the team of lecturers and students from the UPI Biology Study Program conducted counseling on health and nutrition, particularly for the elderly. The session was delivered by Prof. Didik Priyandoko, M.Si., Ph.D. This counseling emphasized the importance of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle to maintain fitness and prevent various degenerative diseases commonly experienced by elders.

Furthermore, the activities continued with a counseling session on making magoboxes — a simple tool for managing household organic waste — presented by Dr. Hernawati, M.Si. The magobox is expected to help the community manage organic waste independently, thereby creating a cleaner and healthier environment. Moreover, magoboxes can also become a business opportunity for the community, such as producing affordable fertilizer and cost-effective fish feed.

The event concluded with free general health examination services provided to the residents. The services were carried out by Nurfitri Yulianty, M.Si., Restu Utari Dewina, M.Si.,                              Try Kurniawan, S.Si., and Biology Study Program students. These examinations aimed to detect early health problems through easy and quick blood analysis, enabling the community to receive proper treatment if any health indications were found.

The Head of Darmaga Village appreciated the initiative of the UPI Biology Study Program for its continuous, tangible contribution to improving the community’s quality of life. Meanwhile, the community service team hopes that this activity will provide long-term benefits and raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining health and the environment. Community service like this is a concrete manifestation of the university’s role in supporting sustainable development and empowering local communities.
