On Friday, June 20, 2025, the Science Education Study Program proudly hosted Workshop I: Pelatihan Pembuatan Soal Open Ended, an exciting and interactive online event that brought together 57 enthusiastic teachers of science and non-science subjects from all over Indonesia. Participants came from various educational levels, making this workshop rich in perspectives and ideas.
The session kicked off at 1 PM (WIB) and was led by none other than Prof. Ari Widodo, who introduced participants to the powerful concept of “big ideas” in learning. With his engaging presentation, Prof. Ari encouraged teachers to think deeply about how essential concepts can be transformed into meaningful, open-ended questions that stimulate students’ thinking and creativity.
Participants were then divided into 8 collaborative groups: six focusing on junior high school (SMP) science topics, one on non-SMP science, and one on non-science subjects. Each group was guided by a capable facilitator who provided support and feedback during the group discussions.
After crafting their “big ideas,” each group had the opportunity to present their ideas and question drafts, which were then thoughtfully reviewed by Ms. Lilit rusyati. This peer-sharing session allowed everyone to learn from one another and reflect on how to design open-ended questions that align with educational goals.
To keep the momentum going, participants were assigned a follow-up task: to formulate their own open-ended questions based on the big ideas they had explored. The results of this task will be discussed in a follow-up meeting schedule for July 2, 2025.
Thank you to all participants, speakers, and facilitators who made this workshop insightful, collaborative, and inspiring. We’re looking forward to seeing your creative questions in the next session. Let’s continue designing learning that matters!
