Small Steps, Big Impact: FPMIPA UPI Advances the Green Campus Movement

The Faculty of Mathematics and Science (FPMIPA) at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting the Green Campus program as part of its efforts to build a sustainable and environmentally friendly campus, in line with the vision of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

UPI Rector Prof. Didi Sukyadi, M.A., emphasized that the Green Campus initiative is not just a temporary program, but an ongoing movement to raise ecological awareness among the academic community. He encouraged everyone on campus to start with simple actions, such as reducing plastic use, processing organic waste, and conserving energy and water, as a form of responsibility for the Earth.

Following this directive, FPMIPA UPI, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Adi Rahmat, M.Si., launched three main focuses in implementing the Green Campus initiative: waste management, waste processing, and expanding green areas. One of its main innovations is turning food waste into maggot feed (black soldier fly larvae), which is both eco-friendly and economically valuable.

FPMIPA has also improved the campus environment by adding more potted plants in various areas and planting grapevines on the faculty pergola to create a cooler and more productive atmosphere. Beyond protecting the environment, the Green Campus program at FPMIPA also plays an educational role by instilling a sense of care and responsibility for nature among student.
