To support continuous professional development and keep up with current innovations in education, the Science Education and Biology Education Study Programs at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (FPMIPA UPI) held a two-day online webinar titled “Webinar Penguatan Kompetensi Guru IPA dan Biologi” on June 12–13, 2025.
The first day of the webinar, held on Thursday, June 12, was full of fresh insights and practical ideas. Starting at 08.00 WIB and joined by 240 enthusiastic participants, the sessions focused on three important themes. Prof. Dr. Phil. Ari Widodo, M.Ed. opened the event with a session on STEM in science education, highlighting how integrating science, technology, engineering, and math can help students build critical thinking and real-world problem-solving skills. Following that, Ms. Aay Susilawati, M.Pd., shared how IoT (Internet of Things) can be creatively used in the classroom to bring science to life through smart devices and digital integration. The morning wrapped up with an inspiring talk by Dr. Rini Solihat, M.Si., who spoke about climate change education and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), encouraging teachers to nurture environmentally conscious learners through their science lessons.
The momentum continued on Friday, June 13, with another three sessions designed to equip teachers with practical tools they can use immediately. This time, 123 teachers joined in. The day began with Prof. Ari Widodo guiding teachers through the creation of STEM-based LKPD (student worksheets) that encourage inquiry and exploration. Next, Ms. Aay returned to share her expertise on designing teaching modules that combine STEM and IoT, a powerful way to engage students in hands-on learning. Finally, Ms. Riana Nurismawati, M.Pd., introduced participants to Tinkercad, a fun and accessible digital platform that allows students to design 3D models and simulate electronics—perfect for project-based science learning.
Throughout both days, participants showed great enthusiasm and engagement, asking questions, sharing experiences, and taking part in discussions. The webinar offered not only new knowledge but also motivation for teachers to innovate in their teaching practices. Events like this reflect the strong commitment of FPMIPA UPI to empowering educators and shaping the future of science education in Indonesia.
