Ethical AI for Student Project Completion

Bandung, July 17, 2024 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences Education (FPMIPA) at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) successfully held a seminar titled “Ethical AI for Student Project Completion.” The hybrid event featured a keynote speaker, Ts. Dr. Khyrina Airin Fariza Abu Samah from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia.

In today’s digital era, artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in various fields, including education. In her presentation, Ts. Dr. Khyrina Airin Fariza Binti Abu Samah emphasized that the use of AI in education must consider ethical aspects. AI, which can simulate human intelligence in machines, consists of several types, such as Narrow AI designed for specific tasks, General AI which is hypothetical, and Super AI which is also hypothetical. The importance of ethics in the use of AI cannot be ignored, as it plays a role in preventing bias, protecting privacy, and promoting transparency in technology used in educational settings.

The ethical principles that must be considered in the use of AI include fairness, privacy, transparency, and accountability. To ensure fairness, regular checks for bias are necessary, involving diverse development teams and using algorithms that consider fairness. Moreover, it is crucial for users to understand the AI decision-making process and for there to be open dialogue about AI’s use in education. This transparency will help users better understand how decisions are made and reduce potential uncertainties.

Student involvement in discussions about AI ethics is also vital to enhance their awareness and responsibility. By engaging students, they can better understand the impact of the technology they use and contribute to creating a better learning environment. A commitment to ethical principles will ensure that AI benefits all students, necessitating ongoing dialogue and adjustments to new challenges in the future. Therefore, the ethical use of AI is crucial for creating responsible and inclusive educational technology, providing a better learning experience for everyone.
