X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) Instrument Training at the Chemistry Study Program, FPMIPA UPI

The Chemistry Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), in collaboration with PT Dynatech, organized an X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) instrument training on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the FPMIPA UPI building. This training aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of lecturers, laboratory assistants, and students within the FPMIPA UPI environment in operating and utilizing XRD instruments for research in crystallography.

The training featured Dr. Maykel Manawan, S.Si, M.Si., an expert applied researcher in XRD in Indonesia, as the speaker. He presented materials on the introductory understanding of crystallography and its research potential, the basic principles of XRD instruments, and their role in supporting crystallography-related studies.

The activity was divided into two sessions: a lecture session and an instrument workshop session. In the lecture session, Dr. Maykel explained the fundamentals of crystallography, crystal structures, and X-ray diffraction methods. He also discussed various XRD applications in different fields of science, such as materials science, chemistry, physics, biology, and geology.

In the instrument workshop session, participants had the opportunity to directly practice using the P-XRD instrument owned by the Instrumental Chemistry Laboratory, FPMIPA UPI. Participants were guided by Dr. Maykel and the PT Dynatech team in sample preparation, instrument conditioning, measurement processes, and interpretation of measurement data.
