Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI)
Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) is a public university established in 1954. Initially, UPI was a Teacher Education College (PTPG) with the main mission of producing teachers. Furthermore, to strengthen the development of educational sciences through the development of scientific fields as a form of cross-fertilization, it became UPI in 1999. The identity of education is still firmly upheld and strengthened in every developed policy and program.
Since 2014, UPI has been recognized as one of the 21 universities with autonomous authority in the form of a Legal Entity State University (PTN BH), based on Law Number 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education. In this regard, UPI has undergone various institutional changes and arrangements aimed at autonomy, accountability, and transparency toward Good University Governance.
As a PTN BH, UPI implements the Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education: teaching, research and social engagement) in the fields of educational science and educational disciplines, as well as religious disciplines, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, formal sciences, and engineering. The implementation of the Tridharma in these various fields of science is carried out proportionally to strengthen the discipline of educational science and educational disciplines based on values of faith and piety, genuine truth, scientificity, educative nature, religiosity, and upholding human rights as well as democracy.
The development of UPI as a PTN BH has propelled the university to achieve significant accomplishments. In 2016, UPI obtained accreditation certification from BAN-PT (National Accreditation Board for Higher Education) based on the decree number 2990/SK/BANPT/Akred/PT/XII/2016 which stated that UPI was accredited with an A (Outstanding) accreditation rating (the highest level of national accreditation). In 2017, UPI received a Three-Star university in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars ranking an official ranking agency used as a reference for world rankings by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education in measuring the institutional quality of universities in Indonesia. Since then, UPI has solidified its position to align with its vision of becoming a world-class university.
Currently, UPI has 99 internationally accredited study programmes, with 60 study programmes accredited by AQAS (Agency for Quality Assurance through the Accreditation of Study programmes), 9 study programmes accredited by ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Study programmes in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics), 4 study programmes accredited by AUN-QA, and 26 study programmes accredited by ACQUIN (Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute) (spm.upi.edu).
