“When education is still unequal across the country,
it is not only distance that becomes an obstacle,
but also hopes and dreams limited by circumstances. “
- SINIMED Team -
SINIMED (Three-Dimensional Learning Media) is a three-dimensional periodic table of the elements that functions as a multisensory and disability-friendly learning tool. This educational tool was developed to support SDG 4: “inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all” within Indonesian schools. This project are guided by Mrs. Triannisa Rahmawati, M.Si., and Prof. Dr. Asep Kadarohman, M.Si., this team is chaired by “Deliana Amanda” and consists of “Fajar Aburrahman” and “Vito Winata Haunan” as members.
Indonesia faces many challenges, and one of them is educational equity. Access to education is still difficult for many students, especially those with visual impairments. Only a small fraction of students with visual impairments can access learning materials, and even then, these materials often do not accommodate their specific needs. This problem led us to create learning media designed to support and facilitate students with visual impairments.
As our first prototype, we are focused on developing SINIMED for students with visual impairments. This Prototype was made in Fabrication Laboratory Education (FABLAB EDU) at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), utilizing 3D Printer and Laser Cutter machines. After the first prototype finished, we conducted the validation of the media and content aspects to chemistry teachers, we also tested the prototype to visually impaired students. As quoted by visually impaired students “This device equipped with Braille letters can be read well, so I am able to understand the shape of the PTE and obtain detailed information through clear audio.”.
With these results, we developed SINIMED 2.0 to be more general learning media that can be used not only for visually impaired students, but also for hearing impaired students and ordinary students. The second version was equipped with a lot of upgrades, such as:
- Working buttons for “Periodic Table of Elements” title, “Manual Instruction”, “Groups”, “Periods”, and “element trends”,
- Color separation on each elements group,
- Sticker symbol for all of the buttons,
- Integrated with Website to explain more detailed information, and
- Audio jack to connect SINIMED 2.0 to external sound output, such as headset, earphones, or external speaker.
While this development is still in progress, we participated in the S.E.E.D Indonesia Competition.

S.E.E.D. Indonesia 2025 (Sustainable Ideas through Education, Engineering, and Design) is an international capstone competition that brought together university students from across ASEAN to co-create innovative and sustainable solutions to real-world social and environmental challenges. The event emphasized STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education, hands-on maker practices, and design thinking. This inaugural event was held at Sanata Dharma University (SDU) in Yogyakarta. The program aimed to engage young changemakers in nurturing sustainable ideas and transforming them into real impact. A total of 29 teams participated in this competition, including 24 Capstone Design Teams and 5 Science Project Teams. The event took place over three days, from July 16 to July 18, 2025.
From this competition, SINIMED Team successfully won two awards, that is “Grand Awards” and “Best Friendship by LUPIC-ICCST”. We are very proud of the achievement we got, we bestow our gratitude to our guide Mrs. Triannisa Rahmawati, M.Si., and Prof. Dr. Asep Kadarohman, M.Si., also to all of the support from LUPIC (Leading University Project for International Cooperation), UPI (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia), KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), NRF (National Research Foundation of Korea), Sogang University, ministry of education korea, SEWB (Scientists and Engineers Without Borders), Green Mineral Co., Seoul Metropolitan RISE Project, Sanata Dharma University, and Government of Yogyakarta.
