A total of five students of the Chemistry Education Study Program at the Indonesian Education University (UPI) received a golden opportunity to participate in the 4th International Conference on Basic Sciences, Engineering and Technology (ICBASET 2024) held in Alanya, Turkey on May 2–5, 2024.
The five students are Nanda Ayu Lestari, Dewi Sulistyowati, Anis Muyassaroh and Anita Fadhilah, all of whom are LPDP awardees and Meta Indah Agnestia who is a BPI awardee. This conference is a forum for them to present their research results in front of academics and researchers from various countries in the world.
Each participant presented their studies related to sustainability issues and environmental-based science innovations such as studies on the isolation of essential oils from lemongrass – Nanda, edible films from starch as part of the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) approach – Dewi, natural dyes from fruit skin – Anis, the use of ionic liquids on bamboo fibers for sustainable materials – Anita, and limestone element contamination and its implications for the environment from the perspective of chemistry and sustainable education – Meta.
Their participation not only demonstrated academic and scientific communication skills on the global stage, but also strengthened the international network of study programs and universities.
After the conference activities in Alanya, the students used their last day in Turkey to explore the beauty of the city of Istanbul. They visited iconic sites such as the Hagia Sophia Museum, the legendary Grand Bazaar shopping center, and explored the Bosphorus Strait that separates Asia and Europe.
“This is a very valuable experience—not only academically, but also personally. Being able to present ideas in an international forum and explore new cultures is an unforgettable moment,” said one of the participants.
The involvement of UPI Chemistry Education students in ICBASET 2024 proves that Indonesian students are able to compete and contribute to global scientific discourse, while bringing sustainable values in every scientific work. (amca)
