
S.E.E.D Indonesia 2025 is an international capstone competition that brings together ASEAN university students to co-create innovative, sustainable solutions for real-world social and environmental challenges through STEAM education, Maker practices, and design thinking. This event took place at Sanata Dharma University (SDU) in Yogyakarta, from 16th - 18th July 2025. For this competition, there are a total of 29 Teams from various Universities, such as UPI, SDU, UNNES, Undiksha, and ISI.
UPI bring 3 teams, LUMINOLYTIC with “Low-Cost & Low Energy Arduino Based Double Beam Uv-Vis Spectrophotometer to Support Quality Education” Project, SINIMED “3D Periodic Table of Elements Based on Arduino as an Innovative Chemistry Learning Media to Support the SDGs” Project, and HYDROMICA “Development of Interactive Learning Media of Biogeochemical Hydrological Cycle with Arduino Microcontroller for Global Warming Mitigation Efforts to Support SDGs.” Project. UPI Team are accompanied by Prof. Dr. Asep Kadarohman, M.Si., Miss Triannisa Rahmawati, M.Si., Dr. rer. nat Omay Sumarna, M.Si., and Miss Qonita Mu’Minah, S.Pd., M.Si.P as their guide.

The first day, we departed from Bandung Station using train at 07.30 A.M and arrived at Yogyakarta Station at 01.30 P.M. We then arrived at Sanata Dharma University at 02.45 P.M, and we attended three lectures that is “Water Microbiology, the Ecology and Public Health” by Dr. Hyenmi Chung, “Understanding of the membrane technology” by Dr. Seongpil Jeong, and “Global sustainable fashion trends & natural dyeing materials” by Prof. Hyewon Park until 04.20 P.M. We then take a small break and continue attending lectures from Dr. Minsoo Maeng about “A case of 100 ton biogas plant project using on-grid type for clean cooking in rural areas in developing countries”.
In the evening, we got a chance to visit the KOICA STEAM Learning Center at SDU with Prof Kwanwoo Shin as the guide. There are a lot of interesting machines and also learning media that has been created by students from SDU.

After this brief tour, we attended the Opening Ceremony for this Event and welcomed by Prof. Kwanwoo Shin (Founder, President of SEWB), Prof. Sarkim (Dean of Science Education), and get to know the Committee for this event through the Introduction by Prof. Lucia Wijayanti (Chair, Organizers). Then, there is one more lecture for the day, by Dr. Jin Eun Eun with “Smart English Learning with the Internet: How to Make the Web Your Classroom” as the topic. After this, we get the chance to know other participants through “Speed Connecting” and enjoy some performances that have been prepared by SDU.
For the second day, at 07.30 A.M we arrived at SDU and prepared our booth for the EXPO of our project.

Then there’s also another Opening Ceremony for the Competition and we are welcomed by Prof. Ir. Sudi Mungkasi, Ph.D (Vice President I of SDU), Mrs. Marcella Dwinda Danti Hutami, S.S. (Head of the LLDIKTI 5 Collaboration Team), Prof. Kwanwoo Shin (President of Research Foundation, Sogang University/Scientists and Engineers Without Borders), Congratulatory Remarks by KOICA, and also Congratulatory Remarks by Prof. Wonkoo Lee (Director of International Cooperation Center for Science and Technology, Sogang University).

After the Opening Ceremony, we then prepared our presentation material for the elimination phase of the competition. The elimination phase is divided into 2 parts, the first one took place from 10.00 A.M until 12.00 P.M, and the second one from 01.30 P.M until 03.00 P.M. After that, there was an announcement for the teams who got to the finals and UPI Team LUMINOLYTIC and SINIMED qualified for the final round along with 6 more teams from other universities.
After the Final presentation end, all participants attended the lecture from Prof. Kwang-Hwan Jung (CEO of Green Mineral) with “From Lab to Company” as the topic. In the evening, the judges and the committee launched the Awards Ceremony. The awards are given to 18 Teams, not only for the finalist, but also for the participant with high score from the elimination phase. The awards category is Grand Award (1 Team), Gold Award (2 Teams), Silver Award (5 Teams), and Bronze Award (10 Teams), and UPI Team successfully bagged 3 medals in this competition. SINIMED got the Grand Award, LUMINOLYTIC got the Silver Award, and HYDROMICA got the Bronze Award. Also, there are Special Awards Category in this competition, that is “Best Innovation by KOICA”, “Best Social Impact by Sogang University”, “Best Design & Functions by SEWB”, “Best Profitable Mind by Green Mineral Co.”,” Best Sustainable Mind by Seoul Metropolitan RISE Project”, “Best Academic Achievement by Sanata Dharma University”, “Best Friendship by LUPIC-ICCST”, and “Best entrepreneurship by Government of Yogyakarta”. UPI Team also Bagged 2 awards, that is “Best Innovation by KOICA” for LUMINOLYTIC, and “Best Friendship by LUPIC-ICCST” for SINIMED. The Congratulatory Remarks by Prof. Kwanwoo Shin marks the end of the second day.

The third day is the last day for the event. It started with lecture from Dr. Hyenmi Chung (SWEB, Korea) about “Control of Microorganisms in Water” followed by “Application of the Desalination System for Drinking Water” by Dr. Seongpil Jeong (KIST), “Development of eco-friendly Kiln with Producing Bone Char for Safe Water” by Dr. Minsoo Maeng (Dankook University), and it ended with lecture from Dr. Eun-Jin Eun (Sogang Univ.) about “Learning English with AI: Your Personal Tutor in the Digital Age”. In the evening, we depart from Yogyakarta station with meaningful experiences, and we are also very proud of our achievement in this S.E.E.D Competition. We hope that this experience becomes motivation not only for us that participate in the Competition, but also for all of the students from various universities in Indonesia.
